Acceptance of any contribution, gift or grant is at the discretion of the LIGHT AND HOPE MISSION . The LIGHT AND HOPE MISSION will not accept any gift unless it can be used or expended consistently with the purpose and mission of the LIGHT AND HOPE MISSION .

No irrevocable gift, whether outright or life-income in character, will be accepted if under any reasonable set of circumstances the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security.

The LIGHT AND HOPE MISSION will refrain from providing advice about the tax or other treatment of gifts and will encourage donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers to assist them in the process of making their donation.

The LIGHT AND HOPE MISSION will accept donations of cash or publicly traded securities. Gifts of in-kind services will be accepted at the discretion of the LIGHT AND HOPE MISSION .

Certain other gifts, real property, personal property, in-kind gifts, non-liquid securities, and contributions whose sources are not transparent or whose use is restricted in some manner, must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the special obligations raised or liabilities they may pose for LIGHT AND HOPE MISSION .

With respect to anonymous gifts, the LIGHT AND HOPE MISSION will restrict information about the donor to only those staff members with a need to know.

Asia is home to millions of orphans who face immense challenges due to poverty, natural disasters, and conflicts. These children are often left without adequate care, education, or protection, putting them at risk of exploitation and abuse.

Statistics: According to UNICEF, there are an estimated 60 million orphans in Asia. Many of these children have lost their parents due to natural disasters, conflict, and diseases, leaving them vulnerable to poverty and exploitation.
Country Focus:
- India: India has the highest number of orphans in the world, with over 30 million children orphaned due to poverty, natural disasters, and social issues. Many of these children live in institutional care or on the streets, where they are exposed to various forms of abuse.
- Bangladesh: Bangladesh, one of the most densely populated countries in the world, has over 4 million orphans. The country frequently faces natural disasters like floods and cyclones, which often leave children orphaned and homeless.
Challenges: Orphans in Asia often lack access to education, healthcare, and proper nutrition. Many are forced into child labor or begging to survive. The cultural stigma associated with orphanhood can also lead to social exclusion and discrimination, further hindering their ability to thrive.

Widows: Women Facing Social Stigma

Widows in Asia, particularly in South Asia, often face severe social stigma and discrimination. In many cultures, widows are seen as burdens, and they are often deprived of their rights to inheritance, property, and social support.

Statistics: According to the Loomba Foundation, there are an estimated 42 million widows in India alone, with millions more across the continent. Many of these women live in extreme poverty, facing social exclusion and abuse.

- India: India has a significant population of widows who often face harsh treatment due to cultural and religious beliefs. In some parts of India, widows are ostracized and forced to live in isolation. The city of Vrindavan, known as the “city of widows,” is home to thousands of widows who have been abandoned by their families.
- Nepal: In Nepal, widows face similar challenges, particularly in rural areas. They are often denied their inheritance rights and are expected to lead a life of austerity. Many are left to support their families without any financial or social support, leading to severe poverty and vulnerability.
Challenges: Widows in Asia are often marginalized and deprived of their basic rights. They struggle to provide for their children and are frequently subjected to violence and abuse. The lack of legal protection and social security for widows exacerbates their plight, making them one of the most vulnerable groups in the region.

The Homeless: A Growing Crisis

Homelessness is exacerbated by poverty, lack of affordable housing, and natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. The number of street children is also a significant concern, with thousands living on the streets in major cities.
Challenges: Homeless individuals in Asia face numerous challenges, including lack of access to basic services like healthcare, education, and sanitation. They are also vulnerable to violence, exploitation, and human trafficking. Children who live on the streets, often referred to as “street children,” are at particular risk, with many turning to begging or petty crime to survive.
