Support for Widows

Approximately 258 million widows live globally,
with over 115 million living in extreme poverty.

Why Help Widows?

Widows often face severe economic hardship, social isolation, and vulnerability. In many cultures, widows are marginalized and deprived of their basic rights, leading to increased poverty and suffering. At Light and Hope Mission, we believe in the Biblical mandate to care for widows, as highlighted in James 1:27: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Our mission is to provide the support and resources needed to empower widows to rebuild their lives and regain their dignity.

Our Program and Strategy

To effectively support widows, we have developed a comprehensive program that addresses their immediate needs and long-term empowerment:

  1. Financial Assistance: Providing grants and micro-loans to help widows start small businesses or cover essential expenses.
  2. Counseling and Emotional Support: Offering counseling services and support groups to help widows navigate their grief and find community.
  3. Skills Training: Conducting vocational training programs to empower widows with new skills and opportunities for employment.
  4. Advocacy and Legal Support: Assisting widows in accessing their legal rights and benefits, and advocating for policies that protect and support them.
  5. Community Building: Creating networks and community groups for widows to support each other and share resources.

Current Statistics

The plight of widows is a critical issue worldwide, particularly in developing countries. According to the United Nations:

  • Approximately 258 million widows live globally, with over 115 million living in extreme poverty.
  • One in ten of these widows lives in extreme poverty, struggling to meet basic needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare.
  • In many developing countries, widows are often left without legal or social support, making them particularly vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.

The Urgency to Intervene

The statistics highlight the urgent need to support widows. Without intervention, widows and their children often fall into cycles of poverty and marginalization. Our commitment is to provide timely and effective support to prevent these outcomes. By empowering widows, we can break the cycle of poverty and create a ripple effect of positive change in communities.
